How Many Photos Do You Need to Train AI on Your Face?

30 September 2026 · 2 min read

It is the first question almost everyone asks before building an AI character: how many photos do I actually need? The honest answer is fewer than you think, as long as they are the right ones.

The short answer: 10 to 20

KinkAI asks for 10 to 20 photos of your face. Below ten, the model has too little to learn from and tends to fill the gaps with guesses. Well above twenty, you rarely gain accuracy, and you raise the chance of including a few poor photos that pull the result away from how you really look.

What makes a good training photo

What to leave out

A simple way to gather them

If your camera roll is thin, take a fresh set in fifteen minutes. Stand near a window, prop your phone at eye level, and shoot a few frames at each angle. Change your top and move to a second room, then repeat. That alone gives you a strong, varied set.

After training

Training takes around ten minutes, and your first character is free to build. Make a few test pictures with simple scenes before anything elaborate. If something consistently looks off, such as your nose or eye shape, the fix is usually in the training photos: swap out the weakest few and build again (a further character costs 25 Kredits).

Take care over these ten to twenty photos and every set you make afterwards benefits.

Build your model once from photos of your own face, and every picture after that is of you. Start with the Starter pack: £9.99 to train your own model, up to 15 pictures included.
